The latest offering from the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, has shown solid performance at the domestic box office, managing to maintain a steady course following its strong festive opening. The film has reportedly amassed a total net collection of ₹42 crore in its first two days of release.
After capitalizing on the Diwali holiday for a spectacular debut, the film, which also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal, saw a predictable, yet contained, dip on its second day.
As per industry trade estimates, the day-wise breakdown of the film’s net collections is as follows:
The second-day collection of around ₹18 crore represents a drop of approximately 25% from its stellar opening day. However, trade analysts consider this to be a reasonable hold, especially as Day 2 (Wednesday) transitioned into a regular working day after the festival rush. The consistent audience interest was evident in the box office occupancy, which saw footfalls nearly triple from the modest morning shows to the evening and night screenings.
While the film has enjoyed a robust start, its real test lies in how well it performs over the next few working days before the conventional weekend surge. With largely positive word-of-mouth helping its cause, especially in urban centres, the producers are banking on a good hold to ensure a profitable venture.
Director Aditya Sarpotdar’s horror-comedy, which explores the unique Indian folklore of the ‘betaal’ or vampire-like entity, has successfully captured the attention of family audiences, strengthening the foundation of the expanding MHCU brand. The coming days will be key in determining if Thamma can match the long-term box office success of the franchise’s biggest hits.
