In a heartwarming gesture that extends his impact beyond the silver screen, veteran actor Vivek Oberoi has announced that he is donating his entire remuneration from the much-anticipated film Ramayan to support a noble cause: helping children battling cancer.
Oberoi, who is set to portray the role of Vibhishan in director Nitesh Tiwari‘s grand cinematic adaptation of the epic, revealed that he chose not to accept any monetary payment for the project. Instead, he directed his earnings toward a cause that is deeply personal and close to his heart.
Speaking about his decision, Oberoi emphasized that his motivation was to leverage his platform for a significant social impact rather than personal gain from such a culturally important project.
In an interview, the actor revealed his conversation with producer Namit Malhotra:
“I told Namit that I don’t want a penny for this. I want to donate it to a cause I believe in—helping kids with cancer.”
This philanthropic move highlights the actor’s long-standing commitment to social responsibility, demonstrating his belief that his involvement in a project of this magnitude should transcend commercial value. Oberoi has been associated with various philanthropic activities in the past, including supporting cancer patients and families of CRPF martyrs.
Oberoi’s generosity comes from a place of genuine passion for the film’s vision. He has openly expressed his admiration for the scale and ambition of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan, calling the film a landmark project.
He further elaborated on his desire to support the team:
“I told him I want to support you because I just love what you’re doing and I think that this will take Indian cinema on the global stage with a bang,” he said. “Ramayana is going to be India’s answer to Hollywood epics.”
The actor believes the film—which features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Raavan—will redefine Indian cinema internationally due to its blend of traditional storytelling, stellar cast, and technical prowess, including collaboration with Oscar-winning VFX companies.
Oberoi’s decision has been met with widespread acclaim from both the industry and the public. His act of choosing compassion over compensation not only draws vital attention to the fight against childhood cancer but also inspires others to use their influence and resources for the betterment of society. As Ramayan prepares to become one of the most expensive and ambitious projects in Indian film history, Oberoi’s heartfelt donation adds a meaningful, compassionate dimension to its narrative even before its release.
