New Delhi, December 2, 2025: A highly inflammatory video claiming to show a temple being demolished in the Jhandewalan area of Delhi to make way for a parking lot for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office has gone massively viral. The deeply sensitive nature of the claim triggered immediate widespread chaos and intense public outrage across social media platforms, forcing both the local police and the municipal authorities to intervene and issue urgent clarifications.

The Demolition Footage Spreads

The viral clip, widely circulated on X (formerly Twitter) and local news forums, documented the demolition of a small structure. Captions accompanying the video explicitly alleged that the structure was a historic Hindu temple and that it was being illegally razed to facilitate parking for the nearby RSS headquarters, the ‘Keshav Kunj’ office.

The sensational claim quickly drew the attention of thousands of users who expressed fury and demanded immediate punitive action against those responsible. The lack of context and the politically charged nature of the claim ensured the video’s exponential spread, demonstrating the speed with which unverified, emotionally provocative content can ignite social unrest.

Police and Authorities Issue Clarifications

Due to the escalating tension and potential for public disorder, the Delhi Police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) were compelled to issue clear, official statements to debunk the claims.

It was categorically denied by the authorities that the demolished structure was a functional or recognized temple. Instead, it was confirmed that the structure was an unauthorized encroachment—specifically a small, makeshift mazaar (shrine) constructed on public land. The demolition was stated to have been carried out as part of a routine anti-encroachment drive being conducted by the MCD following the necessary legal procedures.

Furthermore, the police explicitly stated that the demolition had no connection whatsoever to the RSS office or the creation of a parking facility for the organization. Legal action was reported to be initiated against the individuals responsible for creating and circulating the fabricated and inflammatory video.

The Impact of False Narratives

The Jhandewalan incident serves as a powerful case study of how easily communal and politically sensitive topics can be manipulated using viral video content. The rapid spread of the false narrative about a “temple demolished for parking” underscores the acute danger posed by digital misinformation, particularly when it touches upon religious and political sentiments.

The prompt official intervention by the police and civic authorities was crucial in preventing the viral chaos from potentially spilling over into real-world public protests or disturbances.
