New Delhi, December 2, 2025: A sophisticated, fabricated video purporting to show leaked gameplay footage of the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) has gone massively viral, drawing millions of views and subsequently igniting a fierce backlash from the gaming community. The clip, which was later revealed to have been created entirely using advanced generative AI tools, has intensified concerns regarding the rapid spread of misinformation within the gaming industry.
The bogus video, which was widely shared on X (formerly Twitter) by an account identified as “Zap Actu GTA6,” claimed to show the main female protagonist, Lucia, walking through the game’s fictionalized setting. The footage was polished enough to appear as genuine, early-stage gameplay, complete with realistic-looking graphics, camera angles, and movement styles designed to mimic developer Rockstar Games’ aesthetic. Despite a “Community Note” being added to the post warning of its lack of authenticity, the clip secured over eight million views in less than 24 hours.
This immense virality confirmed the extreme hunger and high anticipation surrounding the title, which has been subject to multiple delays, now officially scheduled for release in November 2026. The hyper-realistic nature of the AI-generated content was cited as the primary reason why it was so widely believed by many in the community.

Following the monumental spread of the footage and the intense scrutiny it attracted, the user behind the account admitted that the video was a complete fake. A statement was issued explaining that the clip had been produced with AI as part of an “experiment” designed to “demonstrate how easy it has become in 2025 to blur the line between reality and AI-generated content.” The creator insisted there was no malicious intent or financial motive behind the stunt.
However, this explanation was met with profound anger rather than understanding. The gaming community, already sensitive to leaks following the major 2022 hack of Rockstar Games, was not entertained. The creator was heavily criticized for giving “false hope” and manipulating the audience’s intense excitement. The account responsible later issued an apology and began the process of deleting the controversial posts.
The incident has done more than just temporarily frustrate fans; it has underscored a serious problem: the accessibility and convincing quality of AI video generation tools are being leveraged to spread misinformation across the entertainment industry. The ease with which a hyper-realistic fake was generated and distributed, fooling millions before being debunked, has amplified calls for better methods of content verification and increased caution from consumers.
The fake footage will likely be seen as a sign of things to come, with experts warning that as AI technology evolves, spotting the difference between genuine leaks and fabricated content will become increasingly difficult.
