New Delhi, December 15, 2025: In a dramatic incident that underscores the life-saving potential of basic medical knowledge, a Jaipur-based businessman was brought back from the brink of death after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest inside a Kota jewellery shop. The hero of the hour was the owner’s son, whose quick thinking and precise application of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) turned a potential tragedy into a miracle of survival.

The heart-stopping moment occurred on Thursday afternoon at Vardhman Jewellers in Kota’ bustling Rampura Bazaar. Rajkumar Soni (60), a gemstone trader from Jaipur who regularly visits Kota for business, was seated at the counter discussing a deal when he suddenly became breathless. CCTV footage captured the alarming sequence of events: Mr. Soni slumped forward, then collapsed unconscious to the floor, his life hanging in the balance.

The Two-and-a-Half-Minute Rescue

While panic gripped the staff and onlookers, Varun Jain (37), the son of shop owner Vimal Kumar Jain, sprang into action without a second’s delay. Despite having no formal advanced medical training, Varun relied on knowledge gained from community awareness programmes about CPR. Recognizing the critical nature of the “golden minutes” following a cardiac arrest, he quickly positioned the collapsed businessman on the floor.

For a relentless two and a half minutes, Varun administered chest compressions, focusing entirely on keeping the blood flowing and oxygen reaching Mr. Soni’s brain. His continuous, calm, and precise effort paid off dramatically. Amidst the relieved gasps of those gathered, Rajkumar Soni regained consciousness, gasping back to life. Quick medical aid administered at the shop further stabilised him before he was safely transferred to a hospital for ongoing care.

A Powerful Reminder of CPR’s Importance

Later, upon recovering, Mr. Soni could only recall fragments of the terrifying episode. “I felt chest pain, then nothing—everything went blank,” he recounted. His business associate, Vimal Jain, confirmed that the regular customer had shown no prior signs of distress before the collapse.

The dramatic CCTV footage of the life-saving intervention was released on Friday and has since gone viral, turning Varun Jain into an overnight hero and sparking a widespread conversation about the necessity of CPR training.

Varun himself credited the community workshops for his crucial know-how. “The first few minutes are everything,” he stated, emphasizing the simple yet profound impact that immediate CPR can have. His father, Vimal Jain, expressed immense pride in his son’s instinctual reaction, noting that while others froze, Varun took immediate charge of the emergency.

This extraordinary event in a humble jewellery shop serves as a powerful real-life testament. It highlights that in a medical emergency, a bystander with basic, timely CPR knowledge is often the first and most critical link in the chain of survival. As the video continues to be shared across social media, it acts as a stark and urgent reminder for greater public participation in life-saving skills training across the country.
