December 27, 2025 — A 17-year-old’s attempt to impress his girlfriend with a rented luxury SUV turned into a nightmare on Thursday evening in Noida’s Sector 22. The minor, who had allegedly run away from his home in Delhi, rammed a Mahindra Thar into multiple vehicles while trying to flee from his own parents, leaving three people injured—one of them with serious head trauma.

The Great Escape Gone Wrong

The incident began on Wednesday when the teenager, a resident of the Kondli area in Delhi, left home without informing his family. According to police reports, the boy had managed to secure ₹10,000 and stayed out for over 24 hours. Seeking to “show off,” he used a portion of the money to book a Lucknow-registered Mahindra Thar through an online rental agency in Greater Noida for approximately ₹4,000.

On Thursday around 5:00 PM, while driving the SUV with a minor female friend near the ESIC hospital in Sector 22, the teenager’s “joyride” met an unexpected obstacle: his own family. His parents, who had been desperately searching for him, spotted the vehicle from the opposite direction.

Panic and the Impact

Panicked by the sight of his parents, the unlicensed minor attempted a high-speed getaway. He threw the SUV into reverse, losing control of the heavy vehicle. The Thar careened backward at high speed, slamming into:

  • Two cars
  • Two scooters
  • A Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle

The impact was so severe that the fuel tank of the Bullet motorcycle burst open, and debris was scattered across the road.

Casualties and Medical Status

Three bystanders from Faridabad—identified as Rana Singh, Pawan, and Sumit—were caught in the path of the reversing SUV.

  • Serious Condition: One of the victims sustained a severe head injury and is currently battling for recovery at a nearby hospital.
  • Stable: The other two victims were treated for multiple bruises and fractures but have since been discharged.

Police Action and Investigations

Noida Police from Sector 24 reached the spot immediately after being alerted by local residents. The minor and his companion were detained, and the Thar was seized.

ACP Swatantra Kumar Singh confirmed that a case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving and endangering lives.

“The minor took the car to impress his girlfriend. We are now investigating the rental agency that provided a high-end SUV to an underage person without a valid license,” the officer stated.

The investigation is also looking into how the minor accessed the funds and the online booking platform. The vehicle involved reportedly had three pending traffic challans for over-speeding and red-light jumping prior to this incident.
