New Delhi, March 28, 2026: The city of Nashik has been gripped by a chilling criminal investigation following the arrest of a prominent self-styled astrologer, Captain Ashok Kharat. Known for his high-profile connections to celebrities and politicians, the 58-year-old former Merchant Navy officer now finds himself at the center of a massive sexual exploitation and blackmailing racket. The scandal erupted into the public eye after a 35-year-old woman filed a formal complaint, leading to the discovery of over 58 objectionable videos involving various women on a single pen drive.

The modus operandi used by Kharat is being described by investigators as both sophisticated and predatory. It is alleged that women who sought spiritual or marital advice were lured into private cabins under the pretext of “Aghori” rituals or special blessings. During these sessions, victims were reportedly administered sedative-laced drinks or “mystical honey,” rendering them incapacitated. The subsequent acts of sexual assault were then filmed using hidden cameras, with the footage later being used to blackmail the victims into silence or further compliance.

A Web of Blackmail and Ritualistic Fraud

As the Special Investigation Team (SIT) digs deeper into the case, the scale of the alleged crimes continues to grow. It has been revealed that Kharat used a variety of “fear-inducing” props, including plastic snakes and tiger-skin fabrics, to psychologically manipulate his clients into a state of submission. By convincing them that their families were “cursed,” he was able to extort lakhs of rupees and isolate women for his illicit activities. The passive reception of his “divine powers” by the elite of Nashik allowed this behavior to continue unchecked for years.

The investigation took a more serious turn when a former employee surfaced with even more damning evidence. The whistleblower claimed that he had secretly installed a CCTV camera in Kharat’s office after becoming suspicious of the treatment his own pregnant wife received during a “blessing” ritual. The resulting footage, which has been handed over to the police, allegedly shows a pattern of organized exploitation. As of March 28, 2026, at least eight separate FIRs have been registered against the “Captain,” with charges ranging from rape and extortion to violations of the Black Magic Prohibition Act.

Political Fallout and the Demand for Justice

The “Ashok Kharat Viral MMS” scandal has sent shockwaves through Maharashtra’s political landscape, as photos of the astrologer with top-tier ministers and bureaucrats continue to circulate online. The Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission, Rupali Chakankar, has also found herself in the spotlight after a video showed her performing a ritual at Kharat’s trust. While she has denied any knowledge of his criminal activities, the opposition has used the connection to demand a more transparent and rigorous probe into the “Nashik Epstein” files.

With the SIT now examining over 100 digital files and financial records, more victims are expected to come forward. The courage of the initial 35-year-old complainant has been praised for breaking the wall of silence that allowed Kharat to operate. As the legal proceedings move toward a trial, the case serves as a stark warning about the dangers of blind faith and the potential for “spiritual” authority to be weaponized for the most heinous of crimes.
