New Delhi, December 23, 2025: A disturbing case of animal cruelty has led to the arrest of a 21-year-old man in Gujarat after a video of a cat being brutally killed was widely circulated online. In the footage, which surfaced in December 2025, the feline was observed being subjected to extreme physical violence, leading to a massive outcry from animal rights activists and the general public. Following a swift investigation by the local police and cyber cell, the suspect was identified and taken into custody under the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The incident reportedly took place in the Surat district, where the accused was seen filming himself while committing the heinous act. The video was shared across several social media platforms, presumably to garner “likes” or “clout,” but it instead triggered a wave of revulsion and digital reporting.

Upon receiving multiple complaints from animal welfare organizations like PETA India and local NGOs, a formal First Information Report (FIR) was lodged. The suspect, identified as Rohan Mehra, a college student, was apprehended from his residence within 24 hours of the video going viral.
The “Gujarat Cat Killing Video” has reignited a national debate regarding the leniency of current animal protection laws. It was argued by activists that the small fines traditionally associated with the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (1960) are no longer a sufficient deterrent for such violent crimes.
As the legal proceedings unfold in late December 2025, the authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any such incidents immediately. The arrest serves as a stern warning that the law extends to the protection of all living beings and that digital evidence of a crime will lead to swift consequences.
