New Delhi, December 24, 2025: A significant urban transformation has been witnessed in Bengaluru’s Indiranagar locality following a viral social media post by a Canadian resident. In a video shared by Christopher Richard, the dilapidated state of the footpaths on 80 Feet Road was highlighted, showing pedestrians forced to walk on the busy main road due to broken tiles and illegal obstructions. This digital critique quickly gained momentum, prompting an immediate response from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and giving rise to the optimistic slogan, “Bengaluru is becoming Walkaluru.”
The restoration was sparked by a video in which Christopher Richard was seen navigating a particularly hazardous stretch of pavement. The “obstacle course” nature of the city’s infrastructure was demonstrated as he navigated through gaping holes and debris.

Following the widespread outrage triggered by the video, the civic body was forced into action. Within days of the post going viral, construction crews were deployed to the site.
The swift repair of the Indiranagar stretch has been hailed by residents as a victory for “citizen-led digital activism.” The term “Walkaluru” was coined by social media users to express their desire for a city where walking is prioritized over vehicular traffic.
As December 2025 concludes, the Indiranagar footpath stands as a symbol of what can be achieved through public accountability. The BBMP has reportedly announced a new “Footpath First” policy, promising that more stretches will be identified for restoration based on citizen feedback received through digital portals. The transformation of a broken pavement into a walkable path is being viewed as a small but vital step toward making Bengaluru a truly pedestrian-friendly global city.
