New Delhi, December 23, 2025: A grave instance of mob violence has been reported in Jharkhand during December 2025, after a viral video emerged showing the brutal lynching of a young man. The footage, which has been widely circulated on social media, depicts a defenseless individual being thrashed by a large crowd over allegations of theft. In response to the growing public outcry and the disturbing nature of the evidence, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been officially constituted by the state police to ensure a thorough and time-bound probe into the killing.

The Incident: Violence Caught on Camera

The victim, identified as Sheikh Tazuddin, was reportedly intercepted by a mob in the Seraikela-Kharsawan district under the suspicion of being involved in a local burglary. However, the situation quickly escalated into a fatal assault before the authorities could be informed.

Formation of the SIT and Police Action

The gravity of the video evidence prompted the Director General of Police (DGP) to order the immediate formation of an SIT. The team is being headed by a senior Superintendent of Police (SP) and includes forensic experts and digital analysts.

Political and Social Repercussions

The incident has reignited the debate over the effectiveness of the Jharkhand Prevention of Mob Violence and Mob Lynching Bill. Human rights activists and opposition leaders have criticized the state government for its perceived failure to curb vigilantism. As the SIT continues its investigation in late December 2025, the case remains a stark reminder of the dangers of digital-led vigilante justice. The state government has issued a stern warning that anyone found sharing the video with inflammatory captions will be booked under cybercrime laws.
