SKY-High Luxury: Suryakumar Yadav’s Wife Devisha Buys ₹7.18Cr Mumbai Home

0

New Delhi, February 24, 2026: Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and his wife, Devisha Shetty, have further solidified their presence in Mumbai’s luxury real estate market. Recent reports and property registration documents reveal that the couple has expanded their portfolio with a significant acquisition in the Deonar area of Mumbai.

The investment is centered in Godrej Sky Terraces, an upscale residential project that has become a hotspot for high-net-worth individuals. While various reports detail the couple’s total investment in the project reaching over ₹21 crore for multiple units, the acquisition of high-end apartments in this specific locality highlights a growing trend of celebrities moving toward emerging luxury hubs in Eastern Mumbai.

Strategic Investment in Deonar

The choice of Deonar is both a financial and personal move for the “Mr. 360” of Indian cricket. Suryakumar, who grew up in the nearby Anushakti Nagar, has often expressed his deep connection to the neighborhood.

  • Project Profile: Godrej Sky Terraces is built on the historic grounds of the former RK Cottage (once part of the legendary Raj Kapoor’s estate).
  • Property Scale: The couple’s combined acquisitions in the project reportedly span over 4,200 square feet of carpet area across consecutive floors.
  • Amenities: The project offers a “bungalow-like” experience with expansive living spaces, high-end security, and premium amenities including dedicated parking for their growing luxury car collection.

Transaction Breakdown

According to data reviewed by real estate platforms like Square Yards, the transaction for their latest units involved substantial statutory payments, reflecting the premium nature of the asset:

  • Stamp Duty: Approximately ₹1.26 crore.
  • Registration Fees: ₹30,000.
  • Possession Timeline: The project is currently under construction, with possession expected by June 2029.

Mumbai’s Shifting Luxury Landscape

Traditionally, Mumbai’s elite have flocked to Bandra, Juhu, or South Mumbai. However, the move by Suryakumar and Devisha into Deonar/Chembur signals a shift.

The area’s transformation—boosted by improved infrastructure like the Mumbai Monorail and the Eastern Freeway—has made it an attractive alternative for those seeking larger residences and better connectivity to both the city center and Navi Mumbai.

Life Beyond the Pitch

Outside of real estate, Suryakumar Yadav continues to be a dominant force in world cricket. Recently retained by the Mumbai Indians for a staggering ₹16.35 crore for the 2025 IPL season, his financial trajectory matches his explosive batting style.

Devisha Shetty, an entrepreneur and dance coach, has been instrumental in managing the couple’s transitions. They currently reside in a lavish apartment in Chembur, known for its personalized “cricket-themed” interiors, including a 7-foot cricket bat display. This new Deonar home represents the next chapter in their journey, combining nostalgic roots with the pinnacle of modern luxury.

Nikon Unveils NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II: The New Standard for Professionals

0

New Delhi, February 24, 2026: Nikon has officially raised the bar for its mirrorless lens lineup with the announcement of the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II. As the successor to one of the most beloved lenses in the Z-mount ecosystem, this “Mark II” version arrives with the promise of refined optics, faster autofocus, and enhanced stabilization, solidifying its place as an essential tool for wedding, sports, and wildlife photographers.

The Evolution of a Legend

The original 70-200mm S-line lens was already heralded for its edge-to-edge sharpness, but the “S II” designation brings a suite of modern refinements. Nikon has focused on reducing weight and improving balance, ensuring that photographers can shoot handheld for longer durations without fatigue.

While the focal range remains the classic 70-200mm, the internal architecture has been overhauled. The lens features advanced anti-reflective coatings—likely an evolution of the Nano Crystal and Arneo coats—to virtually eliminate ghosting and flare, even when shooting directly into harsh backlighting.

Optical Excellence and Speed

At the heart of the new NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II is a commitment to “S-Line” quality. The constant f/2.8 aperture provides stunning subject separation and a creamy bokeh that portrait photographers crave. Furthermore, the lens utilizes a multi-focusing system that powers two AF drive units in perfect synchronization. This results in near-silent, lightning-fast autofocus that can keep up with the most erratic subjects, from sprinting athletes to birds in flight.

Enhanced Vibration Reduction (VR)

One of the standout features of this new release is the upgraded Vibration Reduction system. When paired with the in-body image stabilization (IBIS) of cameras like the Nikon Z8 or Z9, the VR S II offers significantly more stops of compensation than its predecessor. This makes it a powerhouse for videographers who need stable, cinematic shots without always relying on a gimbal.

Built for the Elements

Nikon knows that professional gear must survive professional environments. The 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II is fully weather-sealed, featuring robust gaskets at all moving parts to keep out dust and moisture. The front element is treated with a fluorine coat, making it easy to wipe away fingerprints, water droplets, or grease.

First Look and Availability

The announcement has been accompanied by a “First Look” video on YouTube, showcasing the lens’s real-world performance in high-pressure scenarios. Early reviewers have praised the lens for its “snappier” response and the tactile feel of the programmable control ring and L-Fn buttons.

For those looking to upgrade their kit, the lens is now available for pre-order at major retailers. If you want to dive deep into the technical specifications or secure your unit from the first shipping batch, you can learn more at B&H Photo.

Conclusion

The Nikon NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II isn’t just a minor update; it is a statement of intent. By refining an already world-class lens, Nikon ensures that Z-series shooters have access to the highest possible image quality and reliability. Whether you are capturing the decisive moment on a football field or the subtle emotions of a bride, this lens is built to deliver.

Zakir Khan Debunks Viral Health Scares: “What You Read Online is a Lie”

0

New Delhi, February 24, 2026: India’s beloved storyteller and comedian, Zakir Khan, has finally broken his silence regarding the viral rumors surrounding his health. Following the announcement of an extended hiatus from the stage, various reports began circulating online claiming the comedian was battling a severe, life-threatening illness.

Addressing these concerns directly during a recent public interaction at the Spoken Fest, Zakir dismissed the speculation with his signature candor, stating, “Jo internet pe padha hai woh jhooth hai bhai” (Whatever you have read on the internet is a lie).

Setting the Record Straight on Health Rumors

The “Sakht Launda” creator expressed frustration over sensationalized reports that suggested he was in critical condition or suffering from a terminal illness. He clarified that while he has been dealing with some minor health issues—largely due to a decade of relentless touring—the situation is far from what has been portrayed online.

“My health is a little bad, but not extremely bad. What you’ve seen on the internet is false. People writing these things claim a ‘close family source’ confirmed it, but my family is right there with me, wondering who these sources are!”

Zakir jokingly added that he is at “stage minus 20,” effectively mocking the exaggerated “stage” terminology often used in reports about serious illnesses.

The Real Reason for the Hiatus: A Creative Pivot

While health is a factor in his decision to slow down, Zakir revealed that the primary driver for the break is a massive backlog of writing projects.

  • Writing Commitments: Zakir shared that he has received a significant amount of writing work that he hasn’t been able to focus on for the past six years due to his touring schedule.
  • Burnout Recovery: After ten years of performing two to three shows a day, enduring sleepless nights, and constant travel, he felt it was time to “refill the creative tank.”
  • Personal Life: He mentioned a desire to attend to personal matters and family commitments that had been postponed for years.

The Road Ahead: 2026 to 2030

Zakir first shocked fans during a performance in Hyderabad as part of his Papa Yaar tour, where he mentioned he might stay away from the live stage for three to five years, potentially until 2030.

For those wishing to see him live one last time before the sabbatical, the clock is ticking. His team has confirmed that:

  • His current tour will conclude by June 20, 2026.
  • Remaining shows across India, Dubai, Europe, and the US are being treated as a “celebration” of his decade-long journey.
  • After June 20, he will step away from the spotlight to focus on his health and his pen.

Zakir concluded his clarification with a heartfelt message to his fans: “Jabtak zinda hoon, aapki khidmat mein hoon” (As long as I am alive, I am at your service), reassuring his audience that while the medium might change for a few years, his commitment to his craft remains unshaken.

Engine Malfunction Forces Emergency Lanng for SpiceJet Delhi-Leh Flight

0

New Delhi, February 24, 2026: Moments of high anxiety gripped 150 passengers aboard a SpiceJet flight on Tuesday morning after a mid-air engine failure forced the aircraft to declare a full-scale emergency and return to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.

The flight, SG-123, had departed from the national capital bound for Leh, Ladakh, when the technical glitch was detected shortly after takeoff.

The Incident: Mid-Air Technical Failure

According to airport officials and airline spokespersons, the Boeing 737 aircraft was climbing to its cruising altitude when the cockpit crew noticed an oil pressure warning in one of the engines. Following standard safety protocols, the pilots immediately shut down the affected engine to prevent further damage or potential fire risk.

A “Full Emergency was declared at IGI Airport at approximately 10:30 AM. This protocol activated:

  • Pre-positioned fire tenders and ambulances along the runway.
  • Priority clearance from Air Traffic Control (ATC) for an immediate landing.
  • Medical teams on standby at the terminal.

Safe Landing and Passenger Safety

Despite the tension, the flight crew managed to stabilize the aircraft using its remaining engine—a maneuver pilots are rigorously trained to perform. The plane touched down safely at Delhi airport around 11:00 AM.

SpiceJet issued an official statement shortly after the landing:

“SpiceJet flight SG-123 operating from Delhi to Leh returned to Delhi after the pilots noticed a technical glitch in engine 1. The aircraft landed safely, and passengers were deboarded normally. We regret the inconvenience caused and are making alternative arrangements for the travelers.”

All 150 passengers and crew members were reported safe, with no injuries recorded during the landing or the subsequent evacuation.

Investigation and Background

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been notified of the incident and is expected to launch a formal inquiry. The aircraft has been grounded for a thorough technical inspection to determine the root cause of the engine malfunction.

This incident adds to a series of technical snags reported by various domestic carriers in recent months, highlighting the ongoing scrutiny regarding maintenance cycles and aging fleets in the Indian aviation sector.

NIFTY IT Bloodbath: TCS, Infosys, HCLTech Crash 21% Amid AI & Tariff Fears

0

New Delhi, February 24, 2026: The Indian IT sector is currently navigating its most turbulent period in recent years. As of Tuesday, February 24, 2026, the NIFTY IT index has witnessed a staggering 21% decline over the past month, wiping out nearly ₹5.05 lakh crore in market capitalization.

What began as a cautious correction has transformed into a full-scale rout, with heavyweights like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, and HCLTech leading the descent. Here is a comprehensive look at the factors driving this sell-off and what investors should watch for today.

1. The “Anthropic Shock”: AI Disruption Moves Beyond Hype

The primary catalyst for the current bloodbath is a fundamental shift in how the market perceives Artificial Intelligence (AI). On Monday, AI firm Anthropic announced significant updates to its Claude Code tool, demonstrating its ability to automate the modernization of legacy COBOL systems.

  • Why it matters: Indian IT firms derive a massive portion of their revenue from “managed services” and legacy system maintenance. Automation of these tasks directly threatens the labor-intensive business model of firms like Infosys and TCS.
  • Global Ripple Effect: The news triggered a 13% overnight plunge in IBM shares in the US, which spilled over into the Indian markets. Investors now fear that AI isn’t just a tool for these companies to use, but a competitor that could replace their core services.

2. Global Macro Headwinds: Tariffs and Tensions

Beyond technology, the geopolitical climate is adding fuel to the fire.

  • The Trump Factor: Recent remarks from US President Donald Trump regarding increased global tariffs have created a “risk-off” sentiment.
  • Trade Uncertainty: With the European Union pausing major trade deals in response to shifting US tariff policies, global enterprises are expected to tighten their IT spending budgets, further squeezing the pipeline for Indian service providers.

3. Brokerage Downgrades and Valuation Scrutiny

Leading global brokerages have turned decidedly bearish on the sector:

  • Jefferies recently downgraded six major Indian IT software companies, including TCS and Infosys. They cautioned that in a “worst-case disruption scenario,” sector valuations could face an additional 30–65% downside.
  • CLSA cut price targets for eight IT stocks (including HCLTech and Wipro), citing a lack of market share gains and structural revenue risks.

Performance Snapshot (Tuesday, Feb 24 – Early Trade)

StockPerformanceKey Concern
TCS-3.5%Exposure to BFSI legacy systems being targeted by AI.
Infosys-3.7%Large-scale managed services vulnerable to automation.
HCLTech-4.0%Heavy sell-off following downward revision of growth targets.
Coforge-4.1%Biggest mid-cap loser in the early session.

4. Tuesday Outlook: What to Watch

As Dalal Street processes the “IT Rout,” several key levels and events will determine if the floor is in sight:

  • NIFTY IT Support Levels: The index hit a fresh 52-week low of 30,417.75. Analysts suggest that if the index fails to hold the 30,000 mark, technical selling could intensify.
  • FII Sentiment: Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) have offloaded over ₹11,000 crore in IT stocks this February. Watch for whether they rotate this capital into domestic-facing sectors like Banking or Capital Goods.
  • State of the Union Address: Markets globally are waiting for President Trump’s address later today, which could provide more clarity—or more volatility—regarding trade tariffs.

Conclusion

The Indian IT industry is at a crossroads. While the “software is dead” narrative may be premature, the era of easy growth through labor arbitrage is facing its greatest challenge yet. For investors, the focus has shifted from quarterly earnings to long-term structural viability in an AI-first world.

Northeast Buried: Bomb Cyclone Shashes Snowfall Records

0

New Delhi, February 24, 2026: A monster winter storm, unofficially dubbed “Winter Storm Hernando,” has left the U.S. Northeast reeling after a weekend of explosive intensification. The “bomb cyclone” delivered a historic punch, shattering decades-old snowfall records from New Jersey to Rhode Island and plunging major metropolitan hubs into a state of frozen paralysis.

As of Tuesday, February 24, 2026, recovery efforts are underway, but the scale of the disruption remains staggering. With snowfall totals exceeding three feet in some areas and wind gusts clocking in at hurricane force, the storm has effectively rewritten the record books for 21st-century winter weather.

Record-Breaking Accumulations

The storm’s rapid intensification—a process known as bombogenesis—occurred when the central pressure dropped over 30 millibars in under 24 hours. This meteorological “bomb” unleashed localized snow rates of up to 3 inches per hour.

  • Providence, RI: Recorded a staggering 37.9 inches, officially surpassing the city’s all-time record set during the Great Blizzard of 1978.
  • New York City: Central Park saw 19.7 inches, ranking as the ninth-heaviest snowfall in the city’s 157-year history and the most since 2021.
  • Newark, NJ: Totaled 27.1 inches, breaking a daily record that had stood since 2016.
  • Warwick, RI: Topped the charts with over 3 feet (36.2 inches) of accumulation.

Travel Meltdown: 11,000+ Flights Grounded

The transportation sector faced a near-total collapse as the storm peaked on Monday. Flight tracking data from FlightAware confirmed that more than 10,000 flights were cancelled between Sunday and Monday, with an additional 1,600 cancellations already hitting the boards for Tuesday.

Major hubs including JFK, LaGuardia, and Logan International suspended operations entirely during the height of the blizzard. On the ground, the situation was equally dire. Amtrak suspended Northeast Corridor service between New York and Boston, while governors in eight states issued strict travel bans, citing “zero-visibility” conditions that turned Interstate 95 into a graveyard of stranded vehicles.

Utility Crisis and Public Safety

The combination of heavy, “concrete-like” wet snow and wind gusts reaching 84 mph at Montauk Point took a heavy toll on the region’s aging infrastructure.

  • Power Outages: Over 600,000 customers lost electricity at the storm’s peak. Massachusetts and New Jersey bore the brunt of the outages, with utility providers warning that restoration could take several days due to blocked roads and deep snowdrifts.
  • Fatalities: Tragically, the storm has been linked to several deaths, including two in Maryland caused by falling trees and a cold-related fatality in South Carolina.
  • Emergency Response: Hundreds of National Guard members were activated across New England to assist in high-water rescues and to help clear essential routes for emergency vehicles.

What’s Next?

While the main body of the bomb cyclone has exited into the Canadian Maritimes, the danger has not passed. Meteorologists are warning of a “flash freeze” today as temperatures remain well below freezing, turning slushy roads into sheets of black ice.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that public schools would reopen today, Tuesday, following the city’s first “traditional” snow day since 2022. However, residents are urged to remain cautious, as a weaker “clipper” system is expected to bring a fresh dusting of snow to the region by Wednesday morning.

Sanya Malhotra Sets Social Media Ablaze in a Stunning Crimson Ensemble

0

New Delhi, February 24, 2026: Bollywood’s powerhouse performer, Sanya Malhotra, has once again proven that her fashion game is just as versatile as her acting prowess. Known for her relatable charm and effortless style, the Dangal star recently broke the internet with a series of photographs featuring a “ravishing” red look that has fashion critics and fans alike singing her praises.

While Sanya is often celebrated for her “girl-next-door” aesthetic and curly tresses, her latest appearance leans into high-octane glamour, blending classic elegance with a bold, modern edge.

The Look: A Masterclass in Power Dressing

Sanya’s outfit choice serves as a masterclass in how to wear red—a color that demands attention but requires confidence to pull off. The ensemble featured:

  • The Silhouette: A sleek, figure-hugging design that accentuated her toned physique.
  • The Fabric: A rich, textured material that caught the light, adding depth to the vibrant scarlet hue.
  • The Styling: Keeping the focus on the dress, she opted for minimalist jewelry, allowing the bold color palette to do the heavy lifting.

Her makeup followed the “clean girl” aesthetic but with a sultry twist. With a flawless matte base, a soft wing, and a lip shade that perfectly complemented the outfit, she achieved a look that was both timeless and trendy.

A Departure from the Ordinary

What makes this look stand out is the departure from Sanya’s usual understated public appearances. Usually seen in breezy linens or chic ethnic wear, this transition into a femme fatale aesthetic showcases her ability to reinvent herself.

Social media platforms were flooded with comments from industry peers and followers, with many calling it her “best look to date.” The photos, which quickly went viral, have cemented her status as a burgeoning style icon in the Indian film industry.

Versatility Beyond the Screen

Beyond the red carpet, Sanya Malhotra continues to be one of the most sought-after actors of her generation. With a string of critically acclaimed performances in films like Pagglait, Ludo, and Kathal, she has built a reputation for choosing scripts that challenge the status quo.

This latest fashion statement reflects that same spirit—unafraid to take risks and always staying ahead of the curve. Whether she is portraying a complex character on screen or turning heads at a gala, Sanya manages to maintain an air of authenticity that resonates with her audience.

Why Red is the Color of the Season

Fashion experts suggest that Sanya’s choice of red is a strategic nod to the current global trend of “Tomato Girl” and “Cherry Red” aesthetics dominating runways in 2025 and 2026. By embracing such a bold primary color, she joins the ranks of global fashionistas who are moving away from neutrals and back toward vibrant, expressive hues.

Lathmar Holi 2026: Barsana & Nandgaon Dates & Guide

0

New Delhi, February 24, 2026: As the vibrant season of spring approaches, the sacred land of Braj prepares for its legendary 40-day Rangotsav. While the world celebrates Holi on a single day, the towns of Barsana and Nandgaon offer a week-long spectacle of devotion, ancient rituals, and “playful combat.”

If you are planning to witness the world-famous Lathmar Holi 2026,, here is your comprehensive guide to the dates, significance, and unique traditions of this divine celebration.

Braj Holi 2026: Key Dates for Barsana & Nandgaon

The festivities in Braj move in a specific sequence, following the lunar calendar (Phalguna month). In 2026, the primary celebrations in the Radha-Krishna circuit are scheduled as follows:

EventDateLocation
Laddu HoliFebruary 24, 2026 (Tuesday)Shriji Temple, Barsana
Lathmar Holi (Barsana)February 25, 2026 (Wednesday)Rangili Gali, Barsana
Lathmar Holi (Nandgaon)February 26, 2026 (Thursday)Nand Bhawan, Nandgaon
Rangwali Holi (Main)March 4, 2026 (Wednesday)All over Braj (Mathura/Vrindavan)

Laddu Holi: The Sweet Beginning

Before the sticks come out, the atmosphere is sweetened with Laddu Holi at the Radha Rani (Shriji) Temple in Barsana.

  • The Ritual: This event celebrates the “Phag Invitation.” Traditionally, a priest from Nandgaon (Krishna’s village) visits Barsana to accept the invitation to play Holi.
  • The Celebration: Upon his arrival, he is greeted with thousands of laddus (sweets). Priests shower the gathered devotees with these sweets from the temple heights. It is a chaotic yet joyful scramble as devotees try to catch these “blessings” amidst chants of “Radhe Radhe.”

Lathmar Holi: The Legend of “Stick Holi”

Lathmar Holi is not just a festival; it is a live reenactment of the divine Leela (play) between Lord Krishna and Radha Rani.

1. Barsana Lathmar Holi (Feb 25)

Legend says Krishna visited Barsana to tease Radha and her friends. In response, the women playfully chased him away with sticks.

  • The Ritual: Men from Nandgaon (known as Gops) arrive in Barsana. The women of Barsana (representing the Gopis) “attack” them with long bamboo sticks (lathis).
  • The Defense: The men carry sturdy leather shields to protect themselves. They are not allowed to strike back; their only weapons are their shields and their witty, teasing songs.

2. Nandgaon Lathmar Holi (Feb 26)

The following day, the “return match” happens. Men from Barsana head to Nandgaon to drench the village in color. The women of Nandgaon then take up the lathis to defend their territory, continuing the playful rivalry.

Tips for Travelers & Journalists

If you are heading to Braj in 2026, keep these practical points in mind:

  • Arrival Time: For Lathmar Holi, arrive by 8:00 AM. Roads are often blocked 2–3 km away from the main temples by noon.
  • Safety & Gear: Wear old clothes and cover your camera/phone in waterproof plastic. The crowds are extremely dense, so stay in elevated areas (temple balconies) if possible.
  • Security: The Uttar Pradesh police typically implement a “7-zone” security plan for Barsana, including drone surveillance and designated parking sectors to manage the millions of pilgrims.

Beyond the Colors

While the colors and sticks grab the headlines, the essence of Braj Holi is Bhakti (devotion). Every strike of the stick and every cloud of gulal is seen as an act of love for the divine couple. The air resonates with traditional Hori folk songs that have been passed down for centuries.

Meerut Fire Tragedy: 5 Kids, 1 Adult Killed

0

New Delhi, February 24, 2026: In a heart-wrenching incident that has sent shockwaves through Uttar Pradesh, a devastating fire broke out in a residential building in Meerut’s Lisadi Gate area on Monday night, claiming the lives of six people, including five young children. Initial investigations by local authorities suggest that a short circuit in an electrical appliance likely sparked the blaze, which quickly engulfed the house due to the presence of flammable materials.

The Incident: A Quiet Evening Turned Deadly

The tragedy unfolded around 8:00 PM in the Kidwai Nagar locality. According to police reports, the fire started on the ground floor of a house owned by a local resident identified as Iqbal Ahmad. At the time of the outbreak, Iqbal and his brother had gone to a nearby mosque for evening prayers, leaving the women and children at home.

The ground floor of the residence was reportedly being used as a garment warehouse and tailoring unit. The high volume of stored cloth and fabric acted as an accelerant, allowing the flames to spread with terrifying speed to the upper floor where the family resided.

Rescue Efforts Hampered by Narrow Lanes

Panic gripped the neighborhood as thick black smoke and massive flames began billowing from the building. Neighbors immediately alerted the fire department and local police. However, rescue operations faced significant challenges due to the extremely narrow lanes of the Lisadi Gate area, which hindered the swift movement of fire tenders.

Despite the logistical hurdles, firefighters and police personnel managed to reach the site and battle the blaze for several hours. Seven people were rescued from the inferno in critical condition and rushed to the local civil hospital.

Heavy Casualties and Identification

Tragically, the medical efforts were unable to save most of the victims. Doctors declared six people dead, five of whom were children. One woman remains in critical condition and is undergoing intensive treatment.

The deceased have been identified by authorities as:

  • Rukhsar (25)
  • Mahbish (12)
  • Hammad (4)
  • Akdas (4)
  • Nabia (4 months)
  • Inayat (4 months)

The loss of two infants and three toddlers has left the community in a state of profound mourning.

Official Investigation and Response

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Avinash Pandey and District Magistrate Vijay Kumar Singh visited the site to oversee the situation. Speaking to the media, SSP Pandey confirmed the casualties and stated that a short circuit is the primary suspect behind the fire.

“Seven people were admitted to the hospital with severe burn injuries. Unfortunately, six of them succumbed. We are investigating the exact cause, but preliminary findings point towards an electrical malfunction involving an appliance on the ground floor,” the SSP stated.

The District Magistrate added that the administration is looking into whether the commercial use of the residential space (the garment warehouse) violated safety norms, contributing to the scale of the disaster.

As the smoke clears, the incident serves as a grim reminder of the fire hazards present in congested urban areas and the critical need for adherence to electrical safety standards in homes that double as small-scale industrial units.

Himalayan Heroes: Gaddi Dogs Save Owners from Leopard Attack

0

New Delhi, February 24, 2026: In a heart-pounding display of loyalty and instinct, a pack of indigenous Gaddi dogs successfully fended off a leopard attack at a goat farm in the Satiwala area near Nahan. The dramatic encounter, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, February 23, 2026, was captured on video and has since gone viral, highlighting the critical role these “Himalayan Mastiffs” play in protecting livestock and human lives.

The Midnight Intrusion

The incident began late Sunday night when a leopard, venturing from the dense forests of the Sirmour district, breached the perimeter of a local goat farm. Attracted by the livestock, the predator managed to enter the farm premises under the cover of darkness.

However, the leopard’s presence did not go unnoticed. A pack of Gaddi dogs, specifically bred and trained by Himalayan shepherds for centuries to guard against apex predators, immediately detected the intruder. The dogs sprang into action, surrounding the leopard and pinning it into a corner of the farm. Their relentless barking and aggressive posturing prevented the big cat from reaching the goats or escaping into the open residential areas.

A Morning Confrontation

The situation took a more dangerous turn on Monday morning when the farm owners, identified as Sangram and Neeraj, arrived to open the farm gates. Unaware of the leopard’s exact position, they were caught off guard when the cornered animal launched a desperate, lightning-fast attack.

The leopard reportedly pounced on the two men, causing multiple injuries. Witnessing their owners in peril, the Gaddi dogs redoubled their efforts. By fearlessly engaging the predator, the dogs managed to divert the leopard’s attention away from the men. This brief but crucial window allowed Sangram and Neeraj to retreat and seek safety.

“If it weren’t for the dogs, the leopard wouldn’t have let go. They saved our lives by putting themselves between us and the animal,” one of the witnesses stated.

The Rescue Operation

Following the attack, the leopard retreated and sought refuge inside a narrow drainage culvert pipe nearby. Local villagers alerted the Forest Department, and a rescue team was dispatched from Nahan.

A team of wildlife experts successfully tranquilized the leopard using a dart gun. Despite the presence of hundreds of anxious onlookers, the operation was conducted smoothly. After being sedated, the leopard was transported to the Forest Range Office in Shambhuwala for a medical evaluation and is expected to be released back into a deep forest habitat away from human settlements.

The two injured men were rushed to a nearby hospital. While they sustained significant claw and bite wounds, they are currently reported to be in stable condition.

The Gaddi Dog: The Silent Guardian of the Hills

This incident once again brings the spotlight onto the Gaddi dog, an indigenous breed known for its immense strength and courage. Also known as the Himalayan Guard Dog, they are the backbone of the nomadic shepherd community in Himachal Pradesh.

  • Natural Instinct: Unlike many domestic breeds, Gaddi dogs possess a natural “alpha” instinct against leopards and wolves.
  • Physical Prowess: Their thick coats and muscular build allow them to survive the harsh Himalayan climate and endure physical confrontations with wild cats.
  • Cultural Significance: They are often considered family members by the local shepherds, prized for their ability to navigate the high-altitude terrain of the Great Himalayan National Park.

As human-wildlife conflict continues to rise in Himachal Pradesh due to urban expansion, the bravery of these dogs remains the first line of defense for the rural communities of the Western Himalayas.
